Japanese Plum Liqueur

Probably the most famous and appreciated around the world, umeshu is the emblematic fruit liqueur of Japan. Made from small Japanese plums called ume, from which it takes its name, macerated in alcohol and sugar, umeshu is a perfect symbol of the sweetness of the fruits cultivated in the archipelago. There are many varieties of umeshu with or without the fruit left whole or mixed in the bottle.
