Distilled in December 2016 at the Tsunuki distillery, Mars 2016 Tsunuki French Connections was aged for 4 years in a second-fill bourbon cask giving it a lively and smooth profile. This single cask with a herbaceous, fruity (pear, pineapple) and jammy (mirabelle plum) nose evolving towards a more lemony and spicy (black pepper) register, surprises by its powerful and spicy (star anise) attack on the palate.
Then it is the spicy and medicinal notes (camphor) that appear coated with vanilla and honeyed aromas (acacia) all delivered through a silky texture. The finish is green (barley field), velvety (barley grain) and fermentative (barley porridge). Gourmet, the retro olfaction is marked by notes of praline and marron glacé.
Tsunuki distillery located in Kagoshima, prefecture of the southern tip of the Japanese island of Kyushu, started distilling on October 2016 and the first new make came out of its stills on november 2016. Mars Whisky is betting heavily on this second distillery for which the typical character is being created.
