Mars Malt Duo Komagatake x Chichibu

As its name suggests, this blended malt is a blend of casks from two Japanese distilleries: Shinshu and Chichibu, which have collaborated in the greatest secrecy since 2015.

Its profile, both harmonious and complex, reveals itself at first rather fruity and greedy with notes of plum, orange peel and maple syrup. On tasting, the character of the Komagatake single malt is accompanied by the strong imprint of the Chichibu single malt with aromas of brandy cake, cocoa, nutmeg and a touch of smoke. On the finish, the silky black tea-like tannins can be expressed until the whisky disappears.

Composed of several casks of the iconic Komagatake single malt blended with several casks of single malt distilled in Chichibu, Mars Malt Duo Komagatake x Chichibu is thus the result of an exchange of know-how between two of Japan's greatest whisky producers. Kasuto Hombo, the president of Mars Whisky, went to Chichibu to select some sherry and American white oak casks filled with Chichibu single malt and then transferred to the cellars of the Shinshu distillery where they were aged for nearly six years under specific climatic conditions.
