Mars Komagatake Asagi Madara 8 Year Old is Mars Whisky's first ever blend of single malts and grain whiskies all distilled in Japan.
This blend is composed of grain whiskies and single malts distilled and aged for at least 8 years in American white oak barrels in the cellars of the Shinshu distillery nestled at an altitude of 800 meters in the heart of the Japanese Alps.
Its rather sweet profile reveals fruity and honeyed notes on the nose with the presence of a fine peat, which lasts on the palate with woody and spicy aromas. The finish is accompanied by a more and more discreet peat.
Symbol of this very first 100% Japanese blend, the Asagi Madara butterfly (Parantica sita), which was painted by Tomoko Nakanoma, is known to migrate over long distances, passing through the village of Miyada, where the Shinshu distillery is located, during the month of September.

The distillery Shinshu Mars
Nestled at an altitude of 800 meters in the heart of the Japanese Alps near Nagano, Shinshu was founded in 1985 by Hombo Shuzo, a wine and shochu producer based on the island of Kuyshu.
Shinshu is the highest distillery in Japan and enjoys a cool climate in summer and snowy winters where temperatures are often negative. Built at the foot of Mount Komagatake, from which its single malt takes its name, the distillery is surrounded by pure water springs which it uses for the production of its whiskies.
