Through its Antipodes series, Mars Whisky unveils three versions aged in three different sites, of its emblematic single malt called Komagatake.

With a phenol content of 50ppm, this single cask takes us on a peaty journey with a rich and complex palette. The floral profile, greedy and peaty, expresses itself on the nose with notes of lily, lilac and lily of the valley, to which are added greedy touches of honey and ripe pear, and of course a fine and elegant iodized peat. In the mouth, all the aromas are articulated around the peat which becomes more saline but leaves room for fruity, honeyed notes, and the freshness of green licorice and moss notes. The long and refined finish leaves the imprint of a root peat whose power is balanced by green touches of parsley, dill and eucalyptus.

This single cask n°2063 is the exclusive bottling of a single cask in which the Komagatake single malt was matured. It was distilled at the Shinshu distillery and transferred for ageing to the Mars Whisky cellar located on the island of Yakushima where the tropical climate will leave its mark on the whisky.

Product limited to 1 bottles per order.

The distillery

The distillery Shinshu Mars

Nestled at an altitude of 800 meters in the heart of the Japanese Alps near Nagano, Shinshu was founded in 1985 by Hombo Shuzo, a wine and shochu producer based on the island of Kuyshu.

Shinshu is the highest distillery in Japan and enjoys a cool climate in summer and snowy winters where temperatures are often negative. Built at the foot of Mount Komagatake, from which its single malt takes its name, the distillery is surrounded by pure water springs which it uses for the production of its whiskies.
