Read moreMars Whisky unveils the 2019 limited edition of the single malt Komagatake which has been distilled and aged at the Shinshu distillery nestled in the heart of Japan at 800 meters above sea level. Like last year edition, Chief Blender has once again succeeded in imposing the characteristic style of the House with a version with fruity notes.
Its nose expressing notes of persimmon and juicy apricot to which aromas of orange marmalade are added, leaving palate on the palate with still fruity notes of sweet quince and melon. All these aromas will be erased, leaving behind a few scents of white fruit such as flat peach and pear compote.
Blend of single malts aged 3 to 6 years, some of which are slightly peated at 3.5 ppm, Mars Komagatake Limited Edition 2019 was created from barrels placed at the very top of the distillery cellars where the heat accumulation allows a accelerated maturation. All the single malts selected have been aged mainly in Bourbon barrels, while the rest comes from new American oak casks and Sherry casks.

The distillery Shinshu Mars

Shinshu is the highest distillery in Japan and enjoys a cool climate in summer and snowy winters where temperatures are often negative. Built at the foot of Mount Komagatake, from which its single malt takes its name, the distillery is surrounded by pure water springs which it uses for the production of its whiskies.
