For this 2019 version of Mars Komagatake Double Cellars, Mars Whisky offers a trip to Japan, with a blend of single malts distilled in 2014 in Shinshu and aged in two different places in the country. This fine and unctuous nectar has a surprising complexity despite its age that comes from aging in totally different climates.
This whisky is the marriage of barrels of American white oak, Bourbon and Sherry having been aged in the Shinshu's cellar, a distillery perched at an altitude of 800 meters in the heart of Japan, and barrels of Bourbon aged to the extreme. south of the country on the island of Yakushima, in the eponymous cellar.

The distillery Shinshu Mars
Nestled at an altitude of 800 meters in the heart of the Japanese Alps near Nagano, Shinshu was founded in 1985 by Hombo Shuzo, a wine and shochu producer based on the island of Kuyshu.
Shinshu is the highest distillery in Japan and enjoys a cool climate in summer and snowy winters where temperatures are often negative. Built at the foot of Mount Komagatake, from which its single malt takes its name, the distillery is surrounded by pure water springs which it uses for the production of its whiskies.
