Saburomaru Far East of Peat 4th Batch

This fourth batch is made up of three ingredients: a strongly peated malt from the Saburomaru distillery, distilled in 2018 and aged in Bourbon casks, lightly peated malt also aged in Bourbon casks from the Eigashima distillery formerly known as White Oak, and Scotch malt to bind it all together.
The nose is seductive, with peaty, smoky notes enriched by malty cereal aromas. On the palate, the whisky reveals a rich complexity, blending robust peat flavors from Saburomaru malt with the woody, vanilla subtleties provided by malt from the Eigashima distillery. The finish is long and persistent, offering pleasant warmth and smoky notes that linger on the palate.
The Saburomaru distillery, under the direction of Takahiko Inagaki, has always sought to innovate and collaborate, as evidenced by this collaboration with Eigashima Sake Brewery. Founded long before the Japanese whisky boom of the 2000s and known for its famous Akashi single malt, Eigashima Shuzo is one of the few Japanese distilleries with a long tradition of whisky production.
This collaboration aims to enrich the diversity of whiskies available, in a Japanese whisky industry that is still young compared to its Scottish roots, and where distilleries do not traditionally collaborate with each other. The "Far East of Peat" series of limited editions saw the light of day in 2021, with the first edition born of collaboration between Saburomaru and the Nagahama distillery. By combining different whisky styles and origins, this series explores new possibilities and offers unprecedented flavor profiles to Japanese whisky lovers.

Malt distillation began in 1954 with the creation of the Sunshine blend, and will continue discontinuously until 2016 when Wakatsuru Shuzo made the decision to renovate its facilities in the Hokuriku area to dedicate them to the production of malt whisky.
