Mars Komagatake 6 years old n°2122 Yakushima aging Sherry hogshead 20ppm

Its rich, captivating nose reveals a complex aromatic palette, combining malty, waxy notes and candied fruit aromas such as pear and pineapple, accompanied by a spicy touch of star anise, clove and nutmeg. On the palate, its fullness and liveliness are evident in a fruity attack, revealing flavors of mirabelle plum, apple and pear, as well as a honeyed sweetness. The mid-palate reveals a gourmet sequence of vanilla, noble spices such as saffron and ginger, before returning to malty flavors. The smooth, long finish offers tannins, fruity notes of peach and currant, hints of vanilla and gingerbread.

This whisky is the bottling of hogshead sherry cask n°2122, containing a 20ppm malt and peated whisky distilled in 2017 to be bottled in 251 bottles in 2023. The slightly larger Hogshead sherry casks are known for their extended maturation capacity and characteristic aromatic imprint inherited from previously aged Andalusian wines.

This Mars Whisky single cask was distilled and filled into hogshead sherry cask n°2122 at the Shinshu distillery, located at an altitude of 798 meters at the foot of Mount Kisokomagatake, in the Central Alps of Nagano Prefecture. Then, for ageing, the cask was transferred to Yakushima, a Japanese island listed as a World Natural Heritage Site, where the Yakushima Aging Cellar is located. The unique environment, characterized by its tropical climate, rugged mountains and abundant water reserves, is ideal for whisky ageing.
