Kaetsu Shuzo - Homare Kirin

Originally founded in 1880 in Fukushima Prefecture, Kaetsu Shuzo Sake Brewery moved to Niigata Prefecture in 1886 in the heart of a region famous for its natural scenery and mountainous rivers.

Located at the confluence of the Agano and Tokonami rivers, which provide access to pure spring water, and with a humid climate that regularly brings fog to the area, Kaetsu Shuzo is surrounded by ideal conditions for brewing sake.

The company bottles its sake under three different but complementary brands: Kirin, Homare Kirin, and Kambara. Kirin and Homare Kirin refer to the mythical composite animal named Kirin from Asian mythology, a symbol of serenity and prosperity, while Kambara is a tribute to a nearby village, a symbol of local culture and tradition.

Shunichi Sato, the current president of the brewery who also holds a doctorate in agriculture, has put all his knowledge into the production of Kaetsu Shuzo sake and has seen the fruits of his efforts rewarded with medals in tasting competitions.
