The nose of this whisky is marked by rich exuberance and honeyed sweetness, enveloping intense fruity notes. Spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and pepper add subtle nuances. On the palate, the attack is full and generous, with a green-fruit freshness that delights the palate. The light peat is perfectly integrated, giving irresistible depth. The finish is long, greedy and intensely flavorful, a true pleasure that lingers.

Blended from 26 casks matured for over 10 years, this 100% Japanese single malt is composed mainly of malts aged in first-fill bourbon casks, but also in mizunara and sherry casks. A subtle touch of peated malt is added to this blend, bringing additional depth and light smoky complexity.

Chichibu The First Ten is much more than just a whisky; it represents the fruit of ten years' meticulous work and passion, offering incomparable complexity and richness. With this first 10-year-old, the Chichibu distillery confirms its status as a key player in the world of Japanese whisky.

The distillery

The distillery Chichibu

Ichiro Akuto, grandson of the founder of the Hanyu distillery, decided in 2007 to build a new whisky distillery in the town of Chichibu, 100 kilometers northwest of Tokyo.


Located near the old Hanyu distillery, the local climate with harsh winters and hot & humid summers, gives a certain maturity to the whiskies produced in Chichibu despite their relative young age (production started in 2008).


A small distillery, Chichibu produces in small quantities, but the remaining stocks of Hanyu, Kawasaki and Karuizawa, now exhausted but having been housed there, have allowed Ichiro Akuto to compose rare and exceptional blends. In 2020, the first of Ichiro Akuto's dreams came true with the first 10 year old single malt distilled, aged and blended in Chichibu and a long history beginning to be written.
