Chichibu Paris Edition 2024 Foundations
Single Malt - 50,5% - 70 cl
Chichibu Paris Edition 2024 - Foundations is an emblematic expression created by Ichiro Akuto, founder of the Chichibu distillery, this edition pays tribute to the cities of Paris and Tokyo.
Read moreThe nose is both lively and unctuous, revealing subtle peat in harmony with juicy aromas of lemon, menthol and vanilla. After aeration, tropical notes of banana and pineapple take center stage, followed by herbaceous infusions of verbena and laurel, bringing a pleasant freshness. On the palate, the attack is taut and distinguished, with herbaceous notes of cut hay and pepper. Flavors of damp earth lay the foundation, quickly enriched by nuances of toast and dried fruits such as chestnut and date. The finish is long and full, beginning with milky notes of coconut milk, then evolving to balanced flavors of candied pear and rosemary. Spices (cardamom, cloves, fresh ginger) bring an invigorating, harmonious conclusion.
Chichibu Paris Edition 2024 is the result of a meticulous blend of 15 carefully selected casks: 12 bourbon casks, 2 Chibidaru (small casks characteristic of Chichibu), and 1 red wine cask. Aged 6-7 years on average, this single malt expresses a refined complexity, accentuated by a subtle peatiness that enhances its aromatic palette. Bottled at 50.5% alcohol, without chill filtration or coloring, it is available in a limited edition of 2,484 bottles, each representing a unique work of art thanks to its washi paper labels.
Since 2018, the Paris Edition series has been a tribute to the cultural union between Paris and Tokyo. For the 2024 edition, Ichiro Akuto has chosen six iconic monuments: the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe and Notre-Dame Cathedral for Paris, and Tokyo Tower, Meiji Jingu Gate and Tokyo Imperial Palace for the Japanese capital. Each monument is depicted on a traditional washi paper label, demonstrating Chichibu's respect for Japanese craftsmanship and world heritage. This whisky illustrates the distillery's vision: to create authentic, artistic expressions that celebrate both Japanese terroir and an openness to the world.

The distillery Chichibu
Ichiro Akuto, grandson of the founder of the Hanyu distillery, decided in 2007 to build a new whisky distillery in the town of Chichibu, 100 kilometers northwest of Tokyo.
Located near the old Hanyu distillery, the local climate with harsh winters and hot & humid summers, gives a certain maturity to the whiskies produced in Chichibu despite their relative young age (production started in 2008).
A small distillery, Chichibu produces in small quantities, but the remaining stocks of Hanyu, Kawasaki and Karuizawa, now exhausted but having been housed there, have allowed Ichiro Akuto to compose rare and exceptional blends. In 2020, the first of Ichiro Akuto's dreams came true with the first 10 year old single malt distilled, aged and blended in Chichibu and a long history beginning to be written.
