For this limited edition Chichibu IPA Cask Finish 2017, Ichiro Akuto, founder of the distillery, collaborated with Japanese craft beer producers, including one of the most important Shigakogen. He used Japanese beers casks for an additional finishing of his single malt ranging from a year and a half to 2 years.
This collaboration with local brewers was not only in a sense since at first it was the beers that were able to benefit from refining in whisky casks. It all started with the arrival of barrels used in the aging of Chichibu single malts in some craft breweries to be filled with freshly brewed India Pale Ale for a few months of finishing.
Then these barrels were sent back to the distillery to be used again for the finishing of this single malt. Ichiro Akuto then proceeded to the bottling with a very slight dilution to 57,5% abv in order to preserve a maximum of aromas for the biggest pleasure of the amateurs.
Product limited to 1 bottles per order.

The distillery Chichibu
Ichiro Akuto, grandson of the founder of the Hanyu distillery, decided in 2007 to build a new whisky distillery in the town of Chichibu, 100 kilometers northwest of Tokyo.
Located near the old Hanyu distillery, the local climate with harsh winters and hot & humid summers, gives a certain maturity to the whiskies produced in Chichibu despite their relative young age (production started in 2008).
A small distillery, Chichibu produces in small quantities, but the remaining stocks of Hanyu, Kawasaki and Karuizawa, now exhausted but having been housed there, have allowed Ichiro Akuto to compose rare and exceptional blends. In 2020, the first of Ichiro Akuto's dreams came true with the first 10 year old single malt distilled, aged and blended in Chichibu and a long history beginning to be written.
