This Japanese world blend is a blend of a majority of malts whiskies distilled at Akkeshi with some imported grain whiskies and aged in the distillery's cellar. All the whiskies in its composition have been matured in different types of casks (bourbon, mizunara, sherry casks) to give birth to a blend with a deep and complex profile.
On the nose, notes of honey, orange marmalade and salted butter caramel are present, and are joined on the palate by aromas of citrus, brown sugar and a discreet saline smoke. On the finish the spices make an appearance with notes of white pepper and a slight bitterness of orange peel that comes through.
Akkeshi Shosho is the fourth whisky in the "24 Sekki" series inspired by the ancient Asian calendar where a year is divided into 24 solar seasons, each of which has a name and is associated with a specific seasonal change such as the onset of winter or the spring equinox. Shosho refers to the season between late summer and early fall when temperatures begin to drop and grains, especially barley, must be harvested.

The distillery Akkeshi
Founded in 2013 by the Kenten Company, Akkeshi Distillery is sometimes referred to as the little Lagavulin for its similarities to the famous Scottish distillery.
Akkeshi is the second Japanese whisky distillery based on the island of Hokkaido after the famous Yoichi distillery of Nikka. Like its neighbor, it is inspired by the Scottish spirit with its pair of Forsyths traditional pot stills and the use of peated barley to produce single malts with a strong peaty character like those of Islay.
